Economic Policy

Australia’s economic success depends upon strong policy settings that drive growth and ensure we remain productive and competitive. Economic policies need to focus on the system as a whole, through comprehensive tax reform, by reducing unnecessary regulation, encouraging competition, and investing in infrastructure and industry.

Environment & Energy

Australia is at a pivotal moment in our transition to net-zero by 2050. We need competitive, market-driven policy settings that facilitate this transition, while supporting sustainable development and maintaining affordable and reliable energy supply. ACCI believes that energy and environment policies should be complementary, providing long-term certainty that stimulates private investment and competition.

Workplace Relations

The Australian workplace relations landscape needs to be underpinned by policies that prioritise enterprise-level bargaining, streamline modern awards, support business flexibility for employees and employers, and promote equality and fairness.

Work Health & Safety

ACCI has a long history of advocating for Australia’s employers on policies around work health and safety (WHS) and workers’ compensation. Improving health and safety outcomes in our workplaces requires a coordinated approach from employers, workers, government and regulators.

Digital and Cybersecurity

The rapid digitisation of the economy has created unprecedented opportunities for business. But, at the same time, it poses challenges in areas like digital literacy, data protection and privacy, cybersecurity, and new technologies like artificial intelligence.

Employment & Skills

ACCI advocates for integrated employment and skills policies that promote and support productivity, focusing on filling gaps in the labour market through vocational and higher education, efficient employment services and an industry-driven skilled migration system.

Small Business

Small businesses are the engine room of Australia’s economy, yet they are facing significant challenges due to rising costs, and complex and evolving regulation. Support for small businesses is needed to drive long-term economic growth.

Tourism & Travel

Australia’s tourism and travel sector is vital to the economy, with the potential to contribute $280 billion a year by 2030. Despite this, growth has started to stall after a rapid boom post-pandemic restrictions. To revitalise the visitor economy and see it reach its full potential, strategic policy interventions are needed.

Trade

Australia’s economic prosperity is closely tied to our ability to integrate with global markets and maintain international competitiveness. We need to focus on reducing barriers to trade, including tariffs and non-tariff barriers, and prioritise free and open markets.
